It's not as bad as I thought, although few people here know me. I finally have the sun, and miles of road stretched before me. I don't have air conditioning, but now my car does. I can choose any direction. Fill up the tank and go! I got the Columbia Gorge. I've got the Oregon Coast. Mt. Hood is always in the distance. I've still never been there. I have an unlimited number of fantastic songs to hear. And I don't mind risking my life, taking photos out the window as I drive. But hey, if you want to meet me, and if you'd like to come along, I've got this seat here next to me. It has it's own temperature control, so come on!

Buzz Off 02:56
I'm so small. I have so many legs. You could kill me so easily, but I ask that you don't. And maybe I get stuck in your sink, or you find me on your boyfriend's shirt. Maybe you insist that I stink but I don't, so why don't you buzz off! Shoo, Human.

Love. If it's true love. If it's you love. There's no other to discover. Do you wanna hold my hand as we walk side by side? Help me to never make it end!

Shadow Wave 03:01
See a boat drift by and I say hi. I wish that boat was mine. I have a bike and it's one I really like. But I want to be out on the sea. Or in the river here in front of me. The sun is hot but the wind makes it cool. It's been a lot of days since last we met. A Monday Tuesday maybe I forget. I know it really doesn't matter when. But now you got me going again. There are pieces scattered everywhere. Pictures in my head, and in the cloud. There's a bunch of real clouds in the sky. Thank goodness it's not raining now. Please take me from the rain. I want the sun to be my friend all day. Carry me into the summer please. Leave me there to do my shadow wave. Can we look at things together then? Share in this space-time continuum.

Edward, the ice cream vendor, was ecstatic cuz he found a new lender. Now he can open his brick and mortar. He'll hire some scoopers, and a kitchen porter. Edward, the ice cream vendor, has a teenage daughter, and maybe now he can send her. Off to college in Portland, Oregon. She still doesn't know what she wants, she'll have to explore again. Edward, the ice cream vendor, was celebrating and he went on a bender. He woke up half drunk, and half hungover. He fumbled his breakfast and got scrambled eggs all over.

When 03:26
When we get through this current phase, will we see what we really want? When the time comes to organize our thoughts, we'll put them all in columns. When the sky is clear, how far can we see? Can we see the mountains so far away? When the money is gone can we still exist? Can't we all just agree that money is a joke!? When we get to travel once again, how far we really go? When we say enough is really enough, will anybody take the time to hear us? When we pick ourselves up, how much will we weigh? How tall will we be when we stand up nice and straight? When I lie down at night will I fall asleep, and not toss and turn like I've tended to do? When the pictures of you come into my mind again will I laugh or cry or feel nothing at all? When your love finds me will I be there, or will I have just missed it yet again? We're pushing so hard, and if you can't take anymore, you'll have to say when.

Own Wing 02:10
You know you can be sure of what you found. It cannot be unwound. You gorgeous, fragile thing, please don't clip your own wing.

about

I made these songs when I was in a songwriters club called club songwriters. The songs were based on certain prompts, with different parameters. I made my songs in Portland, Oregon, in the little garage house I rented in Julie's backyard. It was a lovely northwest summer, in the middle of the ugly pandemic.

Thanks to John Saturley for starting that club. It inspired me during a time when I was creatively unmotivated. To hear the songs that all the members made you can go to clubsongwriters.bandcamp.com
